Network Engineer                                                         Full-Time – Houston, TX


SGV International, LLC (SGV) is looking for a Network Engineer to design, implement, and operate IP networks for our clients. SGV’s core focus is on industrial networks, industrial control systems (ICS), and telecommunication system integration for the oil and energy industries.

You will need a strong understanding of network infrastructure and hardware and should be able to configure and troubleshoot network devices. Additionally, you must have a willingness to travel to remote locations such as offshore facilities.

General Responsibilities & Duties
  • Developing network architectures and system configurations, directing installations, defining, documenting and enforcing system standards as part of a project team;

  • Developing and implementing the configuration of routing and switching equipment;

  • Developing and implementing the configuration of hosted IP voice services;

  • Managing network capacity and auditing IP addressing and hosted devices within supported facilities;

  • Liaising with project management teams, site installation teams and service desk engineers on a regular basis;

  • Identifying and implementing new solutions to improve operational efficiency;

  • Maintaining network performance through monitoring devices, troubleshooting outages, and optimizing configurations;

  • Undertaking root-cause analyses in local and wide area networks;

  • Completing client-required change management processes;

  • Reporting network status by gathering and prioritizing information and managing ongoing operational projects;

  • Providing remote support to onsite resources and end users/customers;

  • Assisting with securing networks by enforcing client policies and industry best practices;

  • Participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations;

  • Communicating with and coordinating end-users/customers, 3rd party support organizations, digital security organizations, etc.;

Qualifications & Skills
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience

  • In-depth knowledge of networking devices such as Routers, Switches, WLC’s, etc.

  • CCNA, CCNP, CCIE or similar Network/Security certification strongly preferred

  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols HTTP, VOIP, TCP/IP, etc.

  • Good understanding of network cabling e.g. copper, fiber and their characteristics.

  • Strong understanding of OSI Model

  • Basic understanding of network security, firewalls, and Purdue Reference Model a plus

  • Familiarity with SolarWinds, Remedy, and ServiceNow preferred

  • Ability to communicate and document network design and issues to all levels within SGV and its clients

  • Willing and able to travel to client locations including offshore US and international locations

  • Knowledge and experience with industrial control systems and networks is a plus

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.

  • Ability to analyze complex technical issues and provide options to overcome challenges.

  • Must be a self-starter with the ability and drive to own and deliver a project work package with minimum guidance and support.
